PROFILE
Although formed only a handful of years ago, in 2004, it has been established that ayabie is a band that can't just be brushed off or ignored as "just another visual indie band." The mood of their music fluctuates wildly, ranging from catchy, happy tunes to heavy songs likely to inspire headbanging and a mix of everything else in between. Despite their obviously visual-kei appearance, they're not afraid to cross genres when it comes to their music and are using it to their advantage, attracting fans not only in Japan, but now all over the world.

BIOGRAPHY
ayabie was formed in the spring of 2004, made up of mostly ex-Hinawana members: Ryohei and Takehito on guitar and Intetsu on bass. Vocalist Aoi was the only new face in the lineup, having left his former band, MASK. Starting without a drummer, ayabie used support drummers until 2005.

The group held their first concert, a free one man, at Takadanobaba AREA on May 8th, at which they sold their Kagen no sakura, ame maxi-single, followed by the release of another single, Romancer, which was limited to just one thousand copies. ayabie was unstoppable from the get go and immediately started organizing tours, once of which was a joint tour with alice nine..

Their next maxi-single, Chousoi sou yori san rin, made it into the top 10 of the Oricon indie chart, this accomplishment followed by Gothic Party breaking into the top 100 of the Oricon major charts. ayabie ended their first year together with a performance at Takedanobaba AREA and at Yokohama Aka Renga Souko on December 31st.

Though their first year was very busy, the band didn't slow down at all as the new year began. ayabie released a mini-album in January, followed by a maxi-single in February and then their first full album in March. The band launched into a new tour and, on April 1st, held a sold-out one man live at Shibuya O-East. They released a single that same month and, instead of resting after their blitz of releases and tours, ayabie announced that they would be releasing a new single on the 10th of each month over the summer. In October, they released their second mini album, EquAL pRayer 2 aLL, and began another tour, EquAL pRayer 2 U. However, their biggest news came at the start of that month as, after enlisting the help of support drummers since their inception, ayabie announced that Kenzo would be joining as their official drummer, making the band a quartet.

2006 promised to be another eventful year for ayabie; an official fan club was opened and they immediately kicked off the year with the release of two new singles. In April, they announced that they would be making their first overseas appearance in Finland, followed by lives in France and Germany in June. They were well received by their international fans, especially in Finland where their concert sold out, and seemed to enjoy themselves as well.

The band then returned to Japan and resumed their usual insane pace, releasing FAINT/Topaz at the end of June. When July came, however, it brought a shock to ayabie's fans; guitarist and band leader Ryohei announced he would be leaving ayabie. Despite that news hanging over the band, they released their third mini-album at the end of July and went on another tour, which would be their final with Ryohei as a member. His last live with the group was at Shibuya AX on August 30th.

Ryohei went on to form a new band and, after a brief period of quiet, the band's first since their start, ayabie announced, to the delight of their fans, that they would be releasing a new single and new full-length album, Virgin Snow Color, in November as well as heading out on a new tour that would take them all over Japan. Also in November, Yumehito, formerly of Soroban, who had initially played as a support guitarist after Ryohei's exit, was made an official member of ayabie, once again putting their number at five.

That band distributed numerous singles during their Virgin Snow Color tour and even returned to Europe in May 2007 before performing at the 10th anniversary celebration of Takadanobaba AREA and setting off on their Brilliant Parade summer tour.

A limited release single, Yubiksaki, and new mini-album, Rikkaboshi, were released later in the year, along with their SummerTour'07 The Brilliant Parade DVD and they also participated in stylish wave '07 MATRIX at Shibuya AX on November 28th.

They kicked off 2008 with a performance as part of stylish wave ILLUSION '08 vol.1-2 at Zepp Tokyo and released their first PV collection soon after, on February 13th. In March, a new single was released and, in April, the announcement of the band's first USA tour and another trip to Europe came to much surprise and excitement.

ayabie performed three dates in Europe and went on to the USA to perform at four different locations for their anxious American audience. Upon their return to Japan, they released their latest single, Mikazuki no kiseki, and another live DVD, spring tour Mizu ni tokeru yuki - 2008.04.30 at Shibuya-AX.

Not taking much of a breather, ayabie recently started their Mikazuki no kiseki tour, which will take them through to the middle of September.

ayabie is a band that just doesn't stop. Keeping up an almost constant release and performance schedule since their start, they are always giving their all to their fans across the globe and are sure to continue in that same vein through the end of the year and beyond.
